Since its launch in June 2008, the Barangay Improvement and Development Action (BIDA) is stirring up waves of development in the 44 barangays of the municipalities of Daet and Vinzons.
BIDA is a project spearheaded by the International Movement of Development Managers (IMDM) in partnership with Congresswoman Liwayway Vinzons-Chato. It aims to promote and enhance good governance and the management of projects that will improve the economic and social situations in the barangays.
The significance of this training lies in its participatory approach and its design which incorporates coaching and mentoring as a way to sustain commitment and continuous learning among its participants.
Thus far, 120 barangay officials have benefited from the initial modules on Personhood, Servant Leadership, Team-Building, and Participatory Project Planning Management, conducted in a span of three months.
The next essential component of the program kicked off in November: a team of ten (10) development consultants started the mentoring process with each of the barangays, represented by the barangay chairperson, council, development committee and sectoral representatives. A total of 684 community leaders participated in the first mentoring meeting, a number that is projected to increase as all barangays are reached in the coming months.
The four months that follow will be a continuous process of identifying and rationalizing innovative projects, project proposal writing, and preparation for a Funders' Forum. This culminating event in April 2009 will bring together government agencies, funding institutions, groups and individuals who are potential donors, funders, or investors that will support the identified projects so that the barangays may carry them to completion.
Meanwhile, neighboring municipalities in the province are being prepared for a planned replication of the program.
The ripples and waves created by BIDA's successful implementation will hopefully reach other regions, and strengthen the movement towards good governance and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. |
